Brian McKnight Legally Changed Name to Honor Infant Son

He and wife Leilani Mendoza welcomed their son in January.

Brian McKnight is celebrating his son in a special way.

Over the weekend, the “One Last Cry” crooner shared with his Instagram followers that he legally changed his name to Brian Kainoa Makoa McKnight, Sr. to pay tribute to his youngest child, as reported by PEOPLE. His post also included a photo of his latest album, which features the 9-month-old’s face on the cover.

“So proud to introduce our son 🤍BRIAN KAINOA MAKOA JR. 🤍,” he penned in the caption. “To the world with the release of my new album lovingly created for him. JR. because I am also proud to officially announce that I have legally changed my name to exactly match my legacy’s.”

His album, “MCKNIGHTtime LULLABIES” consists of “the songs of a father to his namesake available now!”

Along with their infant, McKnight and his wife Leilani Mendoza share two other kids: son Jack and daughter Julia. The award-winning singer is also dad to Brian Jr. and Niko with ex-wife Julie McKnight. He also has a daughter, Briana McKnight, from a previous relationship.

In January, McKnight and Mendoza announced the birth of their baby boy on IG.

“God’s greatest gift, our son is here,” the message read in part. “We are so in love!!!!”
