The Atlanta singer helms from the iconic R&B group Xscape, who made their mark in the 90s. As the recently reunited group travails on in their triumphant return to the music industry, they’ve hit a few roadblocks. Kandi Burruss recently dropped a bombshell about an upcoming biopic that Xscape is not behind, naming named reality television producer Carlos King as the culprit.
Xscape left more than just “Traces of Their Lipstick” behind in the music industry. Throughout their career, the group – comprised of Kandi Burruss, Tameka “Tiny” Harris, and sisters Latocha and Tamika Scott came through with harmonious hits that remained throughout the years. But after three platinum-selling albums, the group disbanded in the early 2000s. Every group member has gone on to have their own solo journey. For Kandi Burruss, she’s released a few projects but found much more success as a songwriter, for which she won a Grammy Award. In addition, she’s achieved much success on Broadway, television, and reality tv.
In recent years, Kandi Burruss has become well-known as a cast member on Bravo’s Real Housewives of Atlanta. However, outside of the drama that appears in the series, there have been apparent issues behind-the-scenes as well. One such component of the drama has been with former producer Carlos King, who served for nine seasons. All seemed to be well between Kandi Burruss and King, but recently murmurs of a feud began to spawn. Then, Kandi confirmed issues between the two during a recent Live session. The “Don’t Think I’m Not” singer expressed that the relationship between herself and Carlos King was nonexistent, and her facial expressions reflected the depth of her emotions. However, Burruss didn’t detail the reason behind their fallout.
But now, Kandi Burruss is becoming more candid about what went down between herself and Carlos King. During her recent appearance on the Haus of Aaron Podcast, the singer stated that Carlos King was the reason behind TV One’s plans to release an unauthorized biopic on Xscape’s life. At the time of the announcement, Xscape’s group members denounced the action and revealed plans to make their own. Now, Kandi Burruss emotionally explains that King disrespectfully went behind her back and shopped a movie project centered around their life story to various networks. In addition, he spoke to Burruss’s mother, Joyce Jones, for background information, unbeknownst to her.
Kandi Burruss explained that when she heard an Xscape movie was in the works, she thought one of the group members was attached. But when she discovered Carlos King was the reason behind the disrespectful move, all bets were off, and their relationship has since been tarnished. Eventually, Burruss became emotional as she gave details on her account of the alleged infraction.
Carlos King’s last season as a producer on Real Housewives of Atlanta was in 2017 after the explosive drama surrounding Phaedra Parks, Porsha Williams, and Kandi Burruss. According to Bossip, King was rumored to have been fired for starting the alleged massive scandal of the season. However, he took to social media to clarify that he accepted another project.
