Michelle Obama Got A Grammy.

Michelle Obama has done a lot of amazing things.

She rose to the tremendous pressures of being the first lady during Barack Obama’s presidency, penned numerous books, and even won a Grammy.

the third in the household as the former POTUS has also won two Grammys before. Here’s everything you should know about their awards.

Michelle Obama Once Made A Surprise Grammy Appearance

In 2019, the former FLOTUS made a surprise appearance at the Grammys during Alicia Keys’ opening monologue. Jada Pinkett Smith, Lady Gaga, and Jennifer Lopez were also onstage as they delivered empowering speeches about the power of music.

“From the Motown records I wore out on the South Side to the Who Run the World songs that fueled me through this last decade,” said Obama. “Music has always helped me tell my story. And I know that’s true for everybody here.”

“Whether we like country or rap or rock, music helps us share ourselves, our dignity and sorrows, our hopes and joys,” she continued.

“It allows us to hear one another, to invite each other in. Music shows us that all of it matters, every story within every voice, every note within every song.”

Some were initially confused about her presence at the ceremony.

But later, fans realized that she was reenacting the opening of her Becoming book tour where she also features a group of female celebrities or public servants to talk about who they’re becoming.

Keys, who was hosting the Grammys back then, was also invited to one of Obama’s tours before. “I am becoming more myself, unapologetically myself, with no desire for outside approval,” the singer said during the show, borrowing what she said from the tour.

“I am deepening. I am blossoming. We are the greatest we have ever been, and we won’t dim our light for anybody!

I am becoming more in love with my brothers and sisters in the world. I love you! New York City! We are becoming!” Why Did Michelle Obama Win A Grammy?

In the 2020 Grammys, Obama won the Best Spoken Word Album of the Year award for her bestselling memoir, Becoming. Since she wasn’t there to accept the golden gramophone, presenter Esperanza Spalding — that year’s Grammy winner for Best Jazz Vocal Album — took it on her behalf.

It was a well-deserved win. “In Becoming, [Michelle] Obama doesn’t write so much as talks to her readers as she always has to a nation that fell in love with her — in clear, frank and forthcoming terms, as a black woman in America with a bridge called her back and a wisdom to lay bare,” The Times said in a review of her written book.

Joe Biden took to Twitter to congratulate the former FLOTUS. “Congrats @MichelleObama on winning a Grammy for telling your story with strength — and with grace,” he wrote.

“Jill and I are so thrilled for you. Just beat Barack to an EGOT, will ya?” In case you didn’t know, EGOT means winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award in a lifetime.

Only 15 people have accomplished this so far, including Audrey Hepburn, Whoopi Goldberg, and John Legend. Obama is the second wife of a US president to win a Grammy. Hillary Clinton won the same category for her book, It Takes a Village back in 1997.
